Group Passport

Yesterday, we went to the Immigration Department to apply for a group passport for the whole family. It is cheaper to apply for a group passport rather than having to fork out more dough for each person. Now, children must have their own passport. No longer under Mother/Father's Passport. A group passport or Collective Travel Document In Lieu of Passport (IM. 101), is issued to Malaysian Citizen for the purpose of traveling in groups between five (5) to 20 persons, to ASEAN countries only. This document valids for 9 month from the date of Issue and for a Single Journey only (one entrance and one exit). You can go to this link.

We arrived at 9 something. We took the form, completed it and attached required documents. Then, you can take a Nombor Giliran. You need to select a leader for the group. The documents required for a Group Passport are as follow:
  • Completed form (Borang Passport IMM. 101A)
  • Original and Copy of IC (Leader & each group member)
  • Two (2) Passport Photographs (Background must be blue)
  • Leader and all group members MUST BE present
  • If any group member age below 18 years old and father/mother/legal guardian is joining the group, please enclose:
      • Original and Copy of Birth Certificate
      • Original and Copy of IC (if any)
  • If any group member age below 18 years old and father/mother/legal guardian IS NOT joining the group, please enclose:
      • Father/Mother/Legal Guardian must complete the Borang Pengesahan Izin A1BI.
      • Original and Copy of IC (Father/Mother/Legal Guardian)
      • Father/Mother/Legal Guardian must be present
When you submit your form, all group members must be present so that thumb print can be taken. After you have submitted your form, you need to wait for about 45 minutes (longer if system is offline). Then, your number will be called again to make payment. The fee is RM200 per group (min 5 pax and max 20 pax in a group). The officer will hand over the receipt and a letter to when you should come and pick up the document. Normally it takes 5 days for them to process. We left the Immigration Department before noon. Hungry...didn't take any breakfast. Luckily, FIL bought some snacks for the kids while waiting.

Another note, for those who would like to renew their passport, there is a kiosk available. Just bring your old passport and 2 photographs (just in case you want to beat the queue).
